The Personal Stuff

Although I have traveled the world, my favorite place to be is still my Grandpa’s farm in Mississippi. Canepoles, kinfolk and cornbread are key ingredients to my happiness. I’m convinced there’s nothing better than gathering around the catfish pond with family, sharing stories and battling it out for the biggest catch.

Though I frequent Mississippi, I live in Western North Carolina with my husband and four kids. Writing is my passion, and I am currently working on my first memoir.

The Professional Stuff

My career has consisted of one unique opportunity after another. I began as a news reporter years ago in Mississippi. Then I worked as a freelance writer for nonprofits in Appalachia. I explored nonprofits in Uganda. I studied agriculture and even built a pig farm for a group of kids in need in northern Uganda. After completing my work in Africa, I sought more education.

I earned a master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy. I have over 14 years working in the private and public sector of mental health. My experience has been in multiple states and continents. I have worked with individuals of all age ranges and socioeconomic status. I have worked in wilderness therapy, and private practice, in rural community health, with couples and families and colleges athletes as well as with the Veterans treatment court to help rehabilitate veterans.

Currently, I am writing my first memoir about growing up in the Deep South.
